It's called "alcoholism." He has had an opportunity to drink, under bridges, in dark alleys and in general anywhere else trolls congregate, and now he's trying to put his life back in order. The problem is, there are huge gaps in his memory, like where he was from 1968 - 1977 and what 1+2 was supposed to equal. So now he's gone back to school to try to remember things. Out of curiosity, has he ever shouted out, for no apparent reason, "Red! Yes, that's what that colour is called!" ?

no. but that has crossed my mind. I suspect he must have ruined his mind on something. People are not born like that.
