He was a celtic warrior who resisted the viking invasions. He was pretty notable for this, and he may well have had a castle called Camelot (founds ruins that could be evidence of such.) But most of the stories about him are just fiction. Same as Robin Hood (another show), there were bandits in England, but the most famous were noble people who got cut out of their inheritance and turned to robbing and pillaging the poor folk. However this activity kept their combat skills honed and when inevitable Britain found herself in another war these outlaws would find themselves national heroes as they rode to battle and won.
