I've just finished The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin and there was a tiny subplot in there of a civil war in a nation called Bengali of the planet Urras (not Earth)that ended well, from the perspective of the main character.
It was even cooler when I was reading a Frederick Pohl sci-fi, going to school, and was absorbed in the primaries earlier this year. I was kinda in a dreamlike state and was perplexed that "Des Moines" was so, so familiar until I realized that it is both a major city in Iowa and was mentioned in the Pohl novel.
The only thing that sustains one through life is the consciousness of the immense inferiority of everybody else, and this is a feeling that I have always cultivated.
