If you are at college/uni...
1. What is your major?
2. What job do you hope to get because of this preparation?
3. Is higher education giving you what you feel you need to be successful?
4. Did you go to college right after high school or did you wait?
If you have already graduated...
5. What is your degree in?
Two degrees:
BA in History Honors
MA in Modern European History (emphasis on Central European religious/cultural)
6. Did you find a job that is relevant to your degree?
Yeah, I taught for 5 years, from middle school to teaching a summer class for a local community college
7. Is that job as fulfilling as you thought it would be?
Yes and no. The bureaucratic elements just annoyed me so much that I left the profession, but I loved (for the most part) interacting with the students.
8. Did your schooling properly prepare you for said occupation?
Yes, although my parents' tales had a greater role
9. Hindsight can be both wonderful and terrible sometimes. Do you wish you had chosen a different topic of study?
No, not at all. Of course, I wish I could have augmented history with languages and more religious studies classes, but I still might do that in the coming years.
10. If you like your occupation, YAY FOR YOU!
11. If not, will you go back to school for something else?
No, not full-time. Too much in debt and I'm thinking about pursuing a career in a field (insurance sales) where I don't need more education.
12. Did you go to school right after high school or did you wait a while until you figured out what you wanted to do?
I went that same year and was there for 7 years, earning 2 degrees and aborting a third degree (Education Specialist for Curriculum and Instruction - only took that to get more loan money to pay for my teacher certification classes).
13. If you waited ... do you feel this is directly related to your feeling fulfilled in your occupation?
14. Any advice for the ones currently still in school?
Just to do what interests them, within limits of reason of course.
oh, and... Good luck to you all, in life and in school.
Gracias.
