Re: A small mind in a large world that transcends understanding. mierin sedai - 25/01/2003 05:28:21 AM

Hva betyr 'or'??

har to explain. It is an old Norwegian word. I guess you could translate it as "through".

lol....i do not want to think about what will happen when I try to speak Norwegian......

I am sure you will do fine. Here is a tip: welsh people speak English with a very clear Norwegian accent.

I should get a chance next year.....university nordic societies

wonderful

I think esperanto would be quite nice as a common second language.....it is so amazingly simple. I quite like the sound of it also, but I suppose thats a personal thing...

I only know the theory behind it, actually. I have never heard it spoken. I was introduced to it as "the language which was made to replace all the langauges of the world", and so I promptly locked my once open mind

I think it would be sad to lose some of the less widely spoken languages, because they are so interesting linguistically.

true.

Incidentally, how widely spoken is Nynorsk? Is it growing or dying? I know really very little about it....

Nynorsk (or Bokmål, for that matter) are not spoken. Well, Bokmål is almost spoken in the welthy part of Oslo, I guess. They are both written languages. We speak a variety of dialects. For instance:
Bokmål: Jeg liker bøker
Nynorsk: Eg likar bøker
My dialiect: I like bøker

Its interesting also how people came to their sns....i don't think its a personality thing....at least, I am a counterexample to that anyway......i haven't a clue why i have mine.

I do know about mine, actually. Well, more or less. Years ago, when I had just read the book where Sammael refers to Lanfear as Mierin for the first time, I was getting my e-mail account. Having tried my name and such and getting it rejected, I used the old name of Lanfear (which I found very fascenating). Then, years after that, when I was getting signed up for wotmania, I thought, "oh, well... it will make it easier to understand". Not sure why I added the sedai, though...
