How exactly would that be a favor to Bush's big oil buddies in Texas?

Umm cheaper oil available would actually hurt the US companies. First of all there is more competition so they would get less custom, secondly what they do sell would be at that cheaper rate. Iraq's oil, whilst a valuable resource, the US can do with out - afterall it could be self-sufficient in oil, as could the UK. The countries that are harmed by no Iraqi oil most of all are non-oil producing countires who have to get their oil at higher prices from a limited range of suppliers.
