You get about twelve seconds of action, followed by a few minutes of pissing about in a line.

Football is great for many reasons. The least of which contradicts your reason above. Football has more strategy that makes it very intriguing. After every play you have time to regroup, substitute men, and call the next play (the options are limited) whereas rugby gives you non-stop action but it has a more limited strategy aspect. Don't get me wrong I love rugby.
Another reason why football is great is the level of athletes on the field. No offense but these are some of the best athletes in the world and watching what they can do is amazing.
There are too many reasons for me to list so I will let some others do the talking but one more thing that makes football great. CHEERLEADERS!!!!
