I know that Jerry Springer is very intelligent, and he has held political office in the past. I don't know anything about his political ideas, though, so I can't say whether he'd make a good Senator.
His TV show can certainly be enjoyed on multiple levels... he is a very astute businessman, and has a found a sickening element in the American public of mass craving for the viewing of self-destructive behavior in others. I don't blame him in particular for that, though.
I think it screems a lack of ethics which has no place in politics. Of course, it does have a very prominent place in politics, but it shuldn't
The fact that anyone would need millions of dollars to run for office is, of course, ridiculous. I think that needs to be addressed. On a tangential but related note, my girlfriend is related to the only US President to have been really, truly, dirt-poor: Andrew "Drunken Boxing Champion of Huckspittle County" Jackson.
