if you're not into it, you'll put it off till the last minute and just throw it together. And make it a little narrow. Don't just do the politics of 'insert ancient civilization here', do how their eating habits affected their politics. (Ok, so I'm just grasping at straws. But maybe their love of honey caused them to invade and enslave a former ally.) If it's interesting and hasn't been done 50 times already, your teacher may get so into it he doesn't notice if the grammar is perfect or not.

Or you could just go with capital punishment. There's plenty of material for either side of the issue.
