What was the other election, by the way? I still haven't managed to get anybody to tell me that. Is it some kind of closely guarded state secret?
I was mistaken in saying that only one other election resulted in a candidate who won the popular vote losing the election. There were actually three, although Bush's was the first in over a century: the elections of 1824, 1876, and 1888. In those times, electors did not feel obligated, as almost all do now, to vote for the candidate who won the majority in their state, so I would assume that was a factor in some of those elections.
