only bad comes of me going to New York, and there is no sarcasm in that, to me NYC is the most god forsaken place. Iv had more bad things happen to me my combined month and a half there, then any where in my life time. Now i enjoy certain parts of middle america, houston is a great city, and i adore colorado in the spring, but i will never change my oppinons on New York, New York. Nothing against the people there, but everything against the city.
Cities become cities based on large numbers of people living in one place. The residents of a city give it it's charachter. If you have something against NY, you have something against New Yorkers.
It sounds to me like you weren't prepared for the compactness of NYC. Most of the cities you claim to like are much more spread out Urban sprawls. LA is a particularly good example of a city whos dark seamy underbelly is rather well seperated from the upper crust.
In New York, if you walk two blocks from the trendy upper west side, you end up in Harlem.

One always dies too soon-- or too late. And yet one's whole life is complete at that moment, with a line drawn neatly under it, ready for the summing up. You are-- your life, and nothing else. - Garcin, No Exit
