Well, my routine...
1) I do some stretches. They help me relax and calm down.
2) I hop in bed and roll onto my stomach since that's about the only position I can sleep in.
3) Then, I get as comfortable as possible and shut my eyes. I try not to think about anything. I just relax. If I think then I can't sleep, so I just shut everything down.
4) Then if I can't sleep I read and try the same thing again. Or have a snack. That helps. Something that always stuck with me was that quote from Charlotte's Web, something like you can't sleep with a full mind and an empty stomach.
