Well.. there's always a thought process involved.. but ideally, you're following orders because someone higher up sees a bigger picture.
Why would someone JOIN the army to begin with? To be a hero? To be regularly paid? WHAT? tell me.
Maybe they're at their wits end, and it's their last chance at normalcy. Or they come from a rich family tradition of military people. No clue, really.
