It's not the actual doctrine, but the application and understanding that has caused problems.
I referred to discriminatory laws against women, gays, and minorities in wage paying, adoption, marriage, etc. based on perceptions of religious attitudes. It's not what the religious texts say so much as how some choose to interpret and apply them. Much of what goes on in this country is based on those understandings of texts, so in a sense, it becomes based on the fundamentals of a certain religion belief. That's basically what I said.
