It has always taken me a long time to go to sleep at night, and I function fine on only a few hours sleep. I usually just lie there and let my mind wander wherever it sees fit: I think about my day; tomorrow; lunch; Buffy ; stuff I am currently reading; stuff I am currently writing; stuff I plan to be writing as soon as I hit the writer's block on what I am currently writing; stuff I meant to be writing, but forgot about; the word "stuff"; velociraptors; oatmeal; velociraptors wrestling in oatmeal (hey, don't judge me); family; sports; that damn poppyseed that is stuck in my teeth; the merits of sleeping with one leg uncovered; the merits of sleeping with no exposed appendages lest a crazy goblin come along in the night and see a free nibble (I like my toes where they are); sports again; Alan Greenspan *shrugs*
I suffer from nibbling goblin phobia too!!!!!!
....then I fall asleep and spend the next day just daydreaming
You could try that method, or you could just have a friend hit you with a rubber mallet square on the forehead. That will definitely help you sleep.
