The Koreans might not be happy with the way things are now, but keeping American troops there did work until recently. Without us, North Korea probably would have invaded as soon as U.S. troop left after the Korean War. As it is, South Korea's democracy is alive and well today. Our mission there has been successful, even if many Koreans don't see it that way.
Yes, there are problems with this policy of containment. However, there are many advantages to it as well, most notably that we lose fewer American lives with it. I didn't say that my idea is the perfect solution to the conflict with Iraq -- there isn't one, short of Saddam resigning -- but it is an option, and one we should use until we can at least prove to the world that Saddam is hiding weapons of mass destruction.
