I really find the arrogance behind this sort of message funny. If nations like the United States do not stop people like Saddam Hussein, if we were to take the European ideology to its natural conclusion, then we would live under the tyranny of evil men.
Europe has already shown its ability to fight evil. It showed it in the 1930s, when fear of war permitted the tyranny of Hitler to swallow up Austria and Czechoslovakia without a fight. Even when he invaded Poland, no one declared war on him except for Britain and France, and they passed up an opportunity to strike at Germany when the Western frontier was thinly-manned because they STILL hoped to somehow avert bloodshed. Everyone else put their heads in the sand and then surrendered when invaded. The Swedes never even had the courage to stand up to evil, except for a few people like Raoul Wallenberg.
I'm not going to succumb to hyperbole and compare Saddam Hussein to Hitler. It's not that he isn't as evil; I think Hitler was not the absolute evil most seem to think he was. He was just like countless other dictators, only he had the means to implement much of what they could only dream about. But currently, Saddam Hussein does not have the means to perpetrate any crimes against the world. The reason has been because the United States defended Saudi Arabia, defeated him and expelled him from Kuwait, and demanded his disarmament.
The only problem is that he hasn't been honest about disarming.
While I can respect the opinions of those who think that the United States has not made its case, so to speak, in terms of proving the existence of hidden weapons of mass destruction, it is clear that Saddam Hussein has flaunted many Security Council resolutions on numerous occasions and I personally believe that he IS hiding weapons of mass destruction.
That having been said, regardless of whether you feel that the United States has made its point, the message that you sent skews the line between good and evil, between a democratic nation that has time and again stood up against tyranny, respected the rights of innocents everywhere, and fought constantly to improve living conditions of all of its citizens, and a despotic dictatorship directly responsible for torturing and killing thousands of its own citizens and insensitive to the misery that it has perpetuated on the face of the earth.
That is in and of itself evil, in my opinion.
