I think you need to read a lot more fantasy before you can make such a statement.

RJ is a good journeyman author that hit a hole in the market at just the right time. He caught the imagination of hundreds of thousands if not millions. He led publishers to take risks on fantasy authors, for this we are eternally grateful.
On a top 100 scale, he would rank in the second quartile. There are at least 25-30 better than he, but a hell of lot worse.
