I seem to remember one of the arguments justifying the coup in Chile was that the election system did not show the will of the majority of the people. And that the Parliament should not have been given desicive vote. Well, the Parliament for one, are elected by the people, unlike the Supreme court who have been elected because they are best buddies with presidents (or high-up people in the party). I seem to remember there being something about grateful judges because Bush' father had appointed them...
