a refutation of sorts. Kaen al`Del - 29/01/2003 06:50:57 PM

By definition the two mean different things. Hence 'whining' and 'free speech' are not synonyms.

but aren't you trying to make the point that whining is free speech?

However free speech should allow any one to say anything (barring certain legal issues and taboos and the like). Last I heard, whining wasn't illegal and American society isn't suppressed enough to make it taboo.

And hopefully never WILL BE suppressed enough to take that away. It just gets very tiresome to listen to un-informed or ill intentioned people bitch away for the mere purpose of hearing themselves talk and gather attention to themselves.

Refute the complaints. Don't just tell the person to shut up.

I will agree that just telling somebody to shut up, no matter how whiney the other person is, is not the right way to go about things. However, using your own logic, by not allowing somebody to do just that then taking away their right to free speech? Besides, somebody whose only response to something is to whine about it without any logic or facts can not be refuted as any logical argument you give them will be ignored. How can you intelligently argue with somebody who holds the opinion of "don't confuse me with facts, I know what I believe"?
