Not the person who made this post. Oh no. I'm talking about some of the people who responded to it.
Just what, exactly, did he say that's untrue? It is a fact that the United States burns more fuel than any other country in the world, and by a wide margin. This fuel burning, in case you hadn't heard, is detrimental to the environment. Yes, I know that it's necessary to support our lifestyles. Yes, I drive a car too, and use energy, and therefore add a little to the overwhelming amount of pollution on this continent.
He said that Americans are ignorant about the effects of what they do. I'll take that one step further: North Americans are ignorant about the effects of what they do. That includes Americans and Canadians. If you object to being called ignorant, then you must be saying that you consciously choose to harm the environment, with full knowledge of the eventual consequences of our actions. Is that it? I'm ignorant myself a little, and I believe that most of you are, too. I'm not insulting you. I'm simply stating what I believe to be true.
Does that fact that we need to burn fuel and pollute mean that we shouldn't put any effort into conservation? What, exactly, would it hurt to purchase more fuel-efficient vehicles? To maybe take the bus every once in a while? To insulate your windows to hold heat in better and use less energy? To only turn on the lights that need to be turned on at that moment?
I'm not going to call you all idiots. I know that most of you aren't. I do believe, however, that a lot of us turn a blind eye to the consequences of our lifestyle. That's all I'm really saying. Anyone want to tear me apart now?
