Public school European history, and your own interst in a particular time frame in Japan, hardly equates a nation's understanding and appreciation for the world and how we got here. It is not so much a matter of whether every citizen has "read" other histories, it is whether they respect them. How many languages do you speak? How many people do you know, in this country, who speak 2?3?4?5? languages? Not many, I'll bet. And why would you? They should all speak English, right?i dont have a limited knowledge of the world histories, iv been studying history since i was in elementary school, though that one period is my favorite. I speak three languages and can read 4. By the end of high school, a good many can speak 2, and all most of the senior class can speak atleast 2 fluently. We do speak english, but we also speak spanish, french, chinese, japanese, hebrew, korean...the list goes on.
I have traveled to 25 or more countries, and met hundreds of wonderful people. During this time, nearly everyday, Americans would be in the vicinity. I have yet to see one who wasn't mistreating the locals..... that is what is sad, along with your acceptance of it.I have done the same, and for every american i saw "mistreating" the locals, i saw another in a museam or in a resturant either comenting on what a fine piece that was and giving thier opinion on the piece of art, or ordering the local cuisine, wether it is kimchi or fue gras. By the way whats your favorite city, mine is either monaco, kyoto, st. petersburg, or kobe
thanks for the reply, I also thank you for the reply, and i find that very polite!
