where do you get this. european history is a required class in american high schools, or it is in mine, and i got to public school, so it must be around the country. And that is once agian a horrible generalization. I love japanese history, i know practically everything about it, especially between 1315-1610. im sure there are americans who dont read other histories, but im sure other countries are just the same way.
Public school European history, and your own interst in a particular time frame in Japan, hardly equates a nation's understanding and appreciation for the world and how we got here. It is not so much a matter of whether every citizen has "read" other histories, it is whether they respect them. How many languages do you speak? How many people do you know, in this country, who speak 2?3?4?5? languages? Not many, I'll bet. And why would you? They should all speak English, right?
actually not only do i travel, but i have lived in three other countries. yes some americans are ignorant, but so are most people in the world. What do you meen, they. YOu see a few middle class american tourists who dont know any better, and you make horrible generalizations through that. your point of view is the only sad and embarrising thing.
I have traveled to 25 or more countries, and met hundreds of wonderful people. During this time, nearly everyday, Americans would be in the vicinity. I have yet to see one who wasn't mistreating the locals..... that is what is sad, along with your acceptance of it.
