I remember something my English-teacher told me, once, about British weather-forecasts:

"fog in the channel, Europe isolated".

but I agree with you; EU cannot work. Though I am not sure about that being the main reason...

I think this situation highlights what will happen in the future though. Especially when you have even more countries joining the EU.

I think Churchill and Thatcher said it best ...

Churchill: "Each time we must choose between Europe and the open sea, we shall always choose the open sea...
Each time I must choose between you [De Galle] and Roosevelt, I shall always choose Roosevelt."

Thatcher: "If God had meant Britain to be a part of Europe he would not have put the English channel in the way".

As you can imagine I agree with both those sentiments
