I don't know what exactly makes you think you can drive a Civic Hybrid around the country. Its probably just an old American stereotype that "if its not American made, its crap." But to call it overpriced is insane. The link I included on my first posting above shows it at just below $20,000 for a 2003. With all the technology that is included, that is a veru cheap price. And on top of that, it is the average price for a car of that size. A dodge stratus is $21K for a car thats about the same size of the Civic. As far as Mustangs go, a 2003 Ford Mustang costs between a base price of 18,000 up the the average of $25K and high end at $30K. The Expedition has a base price of $38K and goes up to $45K for the limited edition. So when you compare a car that is just under $20K to a vehicle that is just below $40K, it seems pretty stupid to call the first one overpriced.
First of all, there is NO way we would be able to fit everything we need/desire to take on trips with us with or without our 2 dogs and all their stuff in a Honda. The last time we went out of town, we actually had the back of the Jeep piled almost all the way to the roof and had a few things on the floor behind our seats too.
Secondly, I gave you a VERY clear example of how the crappy Civic was overpriced. And don't tell me they're not crappy. I drove one as a rental while my car was in the shop and it was the biggest piece of garbage. It only had like 25k miles on it and it was already falling apart inside. The heat/AC vent wouldn't even stay put when you adjusted it. Plus, it was tiny, uncomfortable, and gutless. I had more room in my Mustang and I'm 6'2". The Civic has a 0-60 time of what, like 40 seconds?? No thanks.
I wasn't comparing the Civic to SUVs. I was comparing to something somewhat comparable as far as size goes. Of course an SUV is more money...they hold many more passengers (the Expedition has seating for 7 STANDARD now and the Excursion and Suburban both seat 9, I believe). A lot more raw material goes into making them, too.
As far as the looks go, you can link to the gallery on the first post to see that it is just your average car. I am not sure where you can get off with calling it ugly but that is your opinion and I am sure it counts.
I replied before you added the link, so I assumed you were talking about the ugly Honda hybrid that I knew of--the Insight (http://www.hondacars.com/models/exterior_overview.asp?ModelName=Insight) or something stupid like that. That car is UGLY. This one just looks like a Civic which I could care less about. I don't think they're particularly attractive cars, but there's certainly uglier on the roads (the Chevy Avalanche and the Pontiac Aztec come tom mind).
And it is also your right to drive whichever vehicle you choose but I think people don't think about things before they buy a vehicle. I mean who in there right mind would buy a vehicle that costs $40K, you need to spend about $50 in gas every week and it is really bad on the environment? There are obviously better alternatives. Unfortunately you took a very hostile approach to a topic that is pretty clear cut. We should use our heads before we buy stuff instead of being the common American idiot.
Number 1, our SUV didn't cost $40k, but who cares if someone wants to spend $50k+ for one (like the new H2). SO FREAKIN' WHAT?! Two, we don't spend $50 in gas every week. It's less than half that most of the time. Three, I don't swallow all the liberal hogwash about SUVs destroying the environment...it just isn't happening. People who smoke do more damage to the environment than SUVs. I am all for protecting the environment, but I'm sorry, getting rid of SUVs is just not the way to do that.
