sorry. I must be giving you the wrong impression. they do not treat us as intelligent people. might be because there are so many who are not. However, they tend to drop words like that for those of us who want to learn. Of course, palatalisation is an exception. Since it is such an important part of Norwegian dialects. We do not learn the whole list of dento-lavial etc.
Ah...makes more sense now... is it complicated how palatinisation affects the dialects or can it be understood without hearing them??
To give an impression of how stupid we are assumed to be, I should quote my physics textbook, in a section on the kinetic theory: "if we cram more gas molecules into the box" "If we squash the gas molecules".......this textbook.....you would only be using it if you were 17 or 18, and really, the word _compress_ is not beyond any of us....
Admittedly, not everything is like that, but still....
you are quite correct. I wasn't even sure whether there was a word for it in English.
Grammarians have been moaning about how bad it is to use split infinitives in English for the past couple of centuries, even though the alternatives are often completely unnatural. Without success, luckily.
I guide cruise-tourists in summer, very many of which are British.Oh.. those cruises cost so much...
Not going through Molde would be very silly It is quite possible, of course, but they would miss out on a lot.
