(or at least theorize/hypothesize) that female singers are more likely to not be attached to a band and do things themselves, whereas male singers are more likely to stick with a band? Makes sense, I suppose, though I have no idea what the reasons behind this might be ... ah well. Just an interesting trend-ish-esque thing I noticed.
Where it is more likely genre related.
Females seem to be more drawn to Pop. A large part of that is that the genre of Pop is particularly conducive to female vocalist who can flaunt their bodies as easily as their vocal chords.
Males are often more drawn to Rock. This is I think in large part due to rocks aggressive/rebellious nature.
Rock solo artists rarely succeed unless they are defectors from already successful bands.
