That when they die, there is no afterlife. Only nothing. Aren't these beliefs apart of a belief system? There is often as much faith in these views and others as Christians and the like have in their views.
Atheism, a theism: without theism. Without the belief in a god or gods.
This is not a belief system.
An atheist can believe in souls. An atheist can believe in an afterlife. Granted, most don't, but that's not because of their atheism.
The only thing an atheist can't believe in and remain an atheist is deities.
There are plenty of belief systems which lead to or involve atheism, but do not confuse atheism with those belief systems.
Neither atheism nor the 'beliefs' you mentioned are faith as you used the word, either. They're not even positive beliefs; they're the natural state, the lack of a belief in an afterlife. The language phrases this positively, but it does the same to not believing in Santa.
Yet each man kills the thing he loves--
By each let this be heard...
The coward does it with a kiss,
The brave man with a sword!
