I think the key is to only read posts with buddies in them on the community board.

I find if I stay away from posts I don't know anything about on the CMB, and only chat when someone I wanna talk to is in there, I can manage the rest of my life okay.

And lurking is a BIG nono unless you're just wandering the net aimlessly anyway.
