I haven't tried it but if its done carefully I see no reason why not...

I wouldn't like to try painting a keyboard though All those keys all stuck together with coloured paint

As for why it hasn't been done often, I would guess that its just because the idea of painting a computer would not occur to many people......

Have you already got a colour scheme in mind?
